Guam Marathon Course Description & Information

Course

Point -to-point course starting at the University of Guam fieldhouse, run toward the Marine Lab and make a large rectangular loop on the University campus completing two miles before exiting left onto Route 10. From the Route 10 intersection runners head toward Chalan Pago and the Route 10/Route 4 intersection. From there runners turn right onto Route 4 and head (facing traffic) to downtown Hagatna. Traffic Safety personnel will take runners across Marine Drive and into the Paseo stadium grounds. Runners move counter-clockwise around the Paseo track and exit onto Marine Corp. Drive by the Fishermans' Coop and the Boat basin. From there the course heads South on Marine Corp. Drive. The complete right lane and should of Marine Corp Drive will be coned off and dedicated to the runners as they head with traffic to Cabras Island (the United Seamen's Center & Power plant). Runners veer right and run the road into the Guam Port and the Glass Breakwater, past the Fuel farm and to the turn around point on Hotel Wharf. Heading back to Marine Corp Drive, the course veers right and heads South to the front gate of Big Navy where it turns left (traffic safety personnel guiding) and moves toward Rizal Beach. Upon reaching the fork in the road which leads into Agat & Rizal Beach, runners keep right and run to the T-intersection at Apaca Point and turn 90 degrees hard left to Agat Inn On the Bay and Agat village. Runners proceed to the finish line at the Agat Marina and Jan Z's By the Sea (restaurant aka cozy greasy spoon).

Weather Conditions

Precautions should be taken against heat and humidity. Temperatures at the start will generally be in the high 70's (Farenheit) and can climb into the 80's by 7:00 a.m. Warning: Inadequate training, failure to pace and disregard for the importance of taking fluids has resulted in life-threatening conditions, such as heat stroke, in both experienced and first-time marathon entrants. All runners should take fluids at each of the aid stations.

The Finish

The finish line will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Refreshments will be available at the finish. Runners still on the course after 10:00 a.m. will be picked up by course marshalls and brought to the finish line.

Transportation

Transportation from Tumon Hotels will be provided to the start for off-island guests only. Locals must make their own arrangements . All finishers who drive their cars to the start must make their own arrangements to get their cars to the finish. We suggest that runners make their own plans in advance.

Course Assistance

Fourteen aid stations will be provided as previously described. Radio communications between aid stations, medical personnel and official course rovers will be in operation throughout the event.
